Liebherr Introduces GMZ 180B, Largest Clamshell

The latest addition to Liebherr’s line of attachments is the GMZ 180B, a clamshell specifically designed for use with large crawler and material handling excavators. Weighing in at an impressive 18,739 pounds, this massive attachment boasts a capacity of 21 cubic yards for efficient handling of bulk materials. With an opening width of nearly 16 feet, it is ideal for high-capacity operations.

This new clamshell was created in response to the needs of a coal mining company in Indonesia. The client required a high-capacity attachment that could work seamlessly with their Liebherr LH 150 C Port Litronic material handlers, which have operating weights ranging from 341,717 to 385,809 pounds and can reach up to 98 feet and five inches.

Thanks to the GMZ 180B clamshell’s capabilities, the company will now be able to load an impressive amount of coal into trucks equipped with large dump trailers within just fourteen minutes. This feat is made possible by its compatibility with Liebherr’s R976-R9200 crawler excavators and LH60-LH150 material handling machines weighing between176,370 and440925 pounds.

Some notable features on the GMZ180B include a hydraulic low rate of only39.6 gallons per minute as well as sealed bearings on its cylinders which make it suitable for use even in dirty environments or under water conditions. It also has floating bearings that reduce friction at bearing points and wear-resistant steel construction ensuring durability during heavy-duty operations.

Optional additions such as a piston rod guard and central lubrication system are available for those looking for additional customization options. Overall, the GMZ180B is yet another example of Liebherr’s commitment towards providing top-quality attachments that cater to diverse customer needs while maintaining superior performance standards.
